Principal's Message

Meet Rock Quarry Principal Laura Jockisch

Welcome to “The Rock”!

What an honor to serve as the principal of Rock Quarry Elementary School. It’s hard to believe that I have had the privilege of serving students and our community for 18 years! Time flies…. and so many wonderful things have happened over the years.

Our faculty and staff serve approximately 680 students in grades Pre-K through grade 5.  We work together to create a safe and positive environment where all children flourish in academic and social settings.

In recent years our school has been acknowledged at the local, state, and national level.

In 2018, our school was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School.  This award reflects the tremendous amount of work our teachers and students dedicate to academic success. It’s certainly a huge celebration for our school and our community. I was so proud of our teachers, and for our teachers to achieve this recognition.

During the 2020-21 school year our school was recognized by the Alabama State Legislature as one of the top 25 elementary schools in the state. We were recognized by the Legislature in 2024-2025 for reaching this status once again. This recognition was due to continued and ongoing academic success as noted in our school data.

In addition to our focus on academic success, we have placed intentional efforts toward helping children find success with social and emotional wellbeing. We were excited during the 2024-2025 school year to be named a State School of Character. We have established a focus on priorititizing opportunities to build character in our daily walk at Rock Quarry. The touchstone at the entrance of our building serves as a reminder of our character development initiative.

At Rock Quarry…..we strive to “ROCK” as a

Responsible, Outstanding, Compassionate and Kind community!
